Project Description

Region: North America

Country: USA

Location: Arlington, TX

Total Budget: $36,850

Area of Focus: None

Approximately 1500 youth "phase out" of the foster care program on to the streets in Texas each year. Half of these young people will be homeless after their 18th birthday. About the same number will be afflicted with drug and/or alcohol addiction. Many of the girls will end up pregnant before their 20th birthday. The Phased In Organization has recognized this problem and has taken steps to provide a transitional living program to provide for youth exiting foster care at age 18 to assist them to enter society as productive citizens. Phased In has successfully launched two successful transitional living facilities in Wichita Falls and Dallas, TX. It is their intent to open and operate a transitional living facility in Arlington, TX. Phased In has identified a building that will meet their needs and is in the process of remodeling this building. Once the building is completed, it is their intent to house approximately 14 girls to begin the transition program. This transition centers around providing the girls an educational and living skills base to enable them to enter society as productive citizens. The purpose of this grant is to assist Phased In in providing necessary and quality educational tools. Grant money will be used to provide computers and work stations to support in house educational needs and basic transportation means (bicycles)to enable them get to off campus schooling. Budget for this endeavor is $46,000. The timeline for project implementation is based on completion of the remodeling of the building which should be completed by December 2017. At that time educational equipment can be purchased and the educational process initiated. Arlington Sunrise club members are already actively involved in assisting with renovations and, once the girls are in place, club members will be actively involved as mentors, classroom facilitators, chaperons, and other duties as requested by Phased in personnel.

DDF contributions in grey are pending approval of the corresponding district committee.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
