Project Description Region: Central America Country: Honduras Location: Gracias a Dios Total Budget: $64,115 Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene Almost all inhabitants of the department of Gracias a Dios get their drinking water from local rivers contaminated with feces from humans and animals. This project will provide water filters to approximately 1000 homes and provide sanitation/hygiene training to all of these villagers. Installation of latrines will also be considered based on cost and locations. Filter installations and training should begin early in calendar 2018 and be completed by the summer. Most of the funds will be used to purchase, transport, and install filters in individual homes. The remainder will be used for training in hygiene, installations of latrines and the purchase of anti parasitic drugs. Our club/district has installed more than 3,000 filters in homes and schools in this department of Honduras. This grant will be our seventh Global Grant providing clean water to the villagers of La Moskitia, Gracias a Dios, Honduras.
