Dear Rotary International
I am a British Chartered Surveyor with a practice in London. I have been visiting Watamu with my family since 2007 when we started to sponsor two children through private education and donating to Rainbow House.
Rainbow House Kenya is a children's home (orphanage) in the Kilifi / Malindi district of Kenya. Our website is www.rainbowhousekenya.co.uk. The home now receives regular funding from sources in Switzerland, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Recently the purchase of an acre of land next to the home was completed. We hoped to use the land to farm but sadly the water (from a borehole) is too salty for this purpose. A German sponsor has donated alternative land further west for the farm.
We therefore wish to expand our school on the new land. Rainbow Academy already exists as a pre-school with approximately 100 children.
The aim is to move to self funding by way of the school, farm and a shop to sell arts and crafts. We have a financial plan to demonstrate how this will be possible.
Our project is seen fit for funding by the Rotary Club of Watamu.
The cost of the new school is approximately £75,000 GBP to build a school of approximately 900 sq m plus 500 sq m of administration and ancillary / meeting space. An astro turn sports field is also proposed at the rear. Illustrative plans are available.
We intend for the school to offer a full spectrum of primary and secondary education as well as adult courses including English.
I hope that we will be able to find a Rotary grant to assist us.
Please don't hesitate to contact me for further project information.
Thank you
Jonathan Cowan
