We Rotary District 3231 along with Rotary club of Vellore gems has decided to do a project to provide breast cancer screening mobile unit (mammography mobile care unit) to rural areas of our district. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, after skin cancer. One in eight women (roughly 12%) will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. It is also the second leading cause of cancer death in women after lung cancer. Encouragingly, the death rate from breast cancer has declined a bit in recent years, perhaps due to greater awareness and screening for this type of cancer, as well as better treatments.
But the death rate is seemingly high due to lack of awareness in the rural parts of Southern India. The main objective of our project is to provide mobile mammography bus and technicians to give them proper screening to women living in rural areas.
The beneficiaries of the project:
Women aged 35-50 who live in the rural areas (villages, towns, districts, and neighbourhoods away from the city centre) and economically challenged. They were given a complete counselling about their current health status and the test results will be evaluated by experts and delivered related departments. Furthermore, results which could indicate diseases will be delivered the nearest state hospital to make detailed examination and to begin treatment.
