Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: Lebanon

Location: Upper Metn

Total Budget: $85,650

Area of Focus: None

First Global Rotaract Grant:

Young visionaries from the Upper Maten, Lebanon. They are united by our firm belief in the goodwill and power of the youth in our community. Their mission is to provide the youth of the community with a space of creative freedom, where they help them develop, connect and prepare for a better future.

They are transforming an old building rooftop into a hub of classrooms, co-working offices, multipurpose hall, conference room, and a library, to serve the local youth community. The Community Vocational Centre is a non-profit project, aiming to be self-sufficient in order to ensure its sustainability.

The Community Vocational Centre will be called Jabal* Creative Loft. It is going to provide young entrepreneurs and small to medium enterprises with the needed tools and mentorship in order to succeed in their startups and achieve their goals. Moreover, it will provide spaces (as the multipurpose hall) for high school and college students and people of the community with a healthy environment to come up with ideas and projects that serve and develop the community.

Proudly, we as Rotaract Club of Hammana Upper Metn decided to adopt this idea and bring it to life, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Hammana Upper Metn; However to maintain the sustainability of it; we made partnerships with viable entities. The Municipality of Qalaa who has provided the land to build the centre on it will be taking care of the managerial part of the building. On the community development level, the Rotaract Club managed to create a partnership with Rural Initiative Foundation (RIF) who will be using the space to provide training on 1- Entrepreneurship; 2- Women Empowerment; 3- Career Guidance. Lastly, we have also created a connection with the Outreach and Civic Engagement Office at the Lebanese American University that will be contributing to the educational aspect of the project.

The first success factor of the project lies in the need that is present today in the society. Youth lack guidance on the career level and they end up in mainstream majors because they have not touched their true potential. However, with the presence of a centre like this, they will have the opportunity to discover themselves and understand what kind of future they want to create.

On the other hand, the location of the projects plays an important role in the success of it because it allows for a greater impact. The Centre will be located in a strategic location that connects up to 20 villages benefiting a big number of youth and townspeople.

The building works, including the structure of the building, costs $85,650 (details are available in the attached Billing of Quantity sheet).
