Nkaimurunya Primary School is a Kenyan Government School located in Gataka Village, Western Nairobi. It serves a population of about 30,000 Kenyans of mixed background. Most of the families are poor, working as casual workers in the nearby "Nairobi Stone" quarries, commercial rose gardens, or small shops. The average monthly income is about $100USD. The school offers primary education to over 900 students. It has ranked high in Primary School Leaver Exams for the past three years. The Headmistress, Terry Macodemba, credits a dedicated staff, clean water, a meal programme and sanitary pads for girls as the reason for is high achievement. Rotary has furnished vital support. Local chief, David Lepasha, along with the Nkaimurunya School Board met with Mrs. Macodemba and listed the village and the school's greatest needs for a budget of $ 30,100
In order of importance they are:
1.Two new modern toilets. The current toilets were built when the school began in 1998, and they are collapsing and need replacement with two modern toilets Cost: $3000 USD
2.A secure computer room and Library. The school has thirteen computers. It would like to purchase and modify a 40-foot steel container for a classroom. Cost: $15,000 USD.
3.A Library. The school has 600 books stuffed into a small storage room. A new library room would allow better use and more books.$15000
4.Pipe water tot he community to provide Kiosks for sustainability $6,000
5.Plant trees to provide shade and conserve the environment: US 2,000
6. Enhance the local intergroup tournaments to foster peace among the local communities: US$ 2,000
