Project Description

Region: South America

Country: Brazil

Location: Sergipe

Total Budget: $30,100

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

The APAE Aracaju (http://www.apaearacaju.org.br/) is a social entity whose mission is to provide habilitation and rehabilitation services to people with disabilities (cognitive and motor) in the community of the city of Aracaju and other municipalities in the State of Sergipe. Its objective is to provide an improvement in the quality of life and inclusion of those with disabilities, contributing to a more just and solidary society.

Currently, APAE Aracaju serves approximately 200 children providing social services, health in general and education, leisure, sports, culture and research.

Within the scope of the provision of health services, one of the areas that stand out most is the assistance with Physiotherapy services. There is currently a physiotherapy room that serves people of all ages (children, youth, adults and seniors) and one Pedia Suit™ equipment for the rehabilitation of patients with cerebral palsy or have locomotion problems caused by strokes, strokes or other accidents. However, since there is only one physiotherapy room and one Pedia suit™, the service ends up being very restricted to few people, not meeting the existing demand in the community which ends up generating a very large waiting list. For this expansion and with funds raised by the entity itself, a new room was reformed that will be used for adult / elderly physiotherapy, leaving the current room only for children / youths to increase care. Due to lack of resources, the room has only been reformed and it still needs to be equipped (physiotherapy equipment).

Currently, the entity performs 70 monthly treatments and the goal with this expansion is to reach 150 people attended per month (more than double).

In this way, the present project has the following objectives:

- Acquire another Pedia Suit™ equipment to improve the care of the local population in the physiotherapeutic treatment of patients and reduce the existing queue;

- Contribute to the finalization of the new physiotherapy room, so that it can be inaugurated and can be put into operation to increase the provision of services to the community;

- Support for IT laboratory of the entity to improve service to the population, increase donations and digital inclusion;

In addition to increasing the quality of life of the population with increased attendance, the project also aims to improve the occupational health of the population served, providing a return to the labor market of those who are fit, impacting the local economy of the region.
