GLOBAL GRANT PROPOSAL
ADDITIONAL OUT PATIENT FACILITIES AT SANE GURUJI AROGYA HOSPITAL IN PUNE, INDIA
FOCUS AREA: This is a humanitarian project which will provide much needed out-patient department (OPD) facilities in the overloaded Sane Guruji Hospital in Hadapsar, Pune. It falls under the Rotary focus areas of (a) maternal and child health (b) health care and disease prevention
PROJECT NEED: The public health care in India is inadequate due to multiple reasons.
a) Health care allocation by the government has been severely disproportionate with the rising population. India spends only 1.4% of GDP versus 17.4% of GDP in the US for health care.
b) Since health is a state subject, wide disparities exist in delivery and access between states as well as rural and urban population. Factors such as shortage of drugs and doctors have led to drop in OPD footfalls in government hospitals.
c) Private hospitals are expensive due to rising cost of medicines and services making them unaffordable for the poor. There is an urgent need to address the medical needs of the poor.
One solution is to make healthcare affordable in private charitable hospitals.
The Sane Guruji Arogya Kendra Hospital located in Hadapsar, Pune is one such private charitable hospital that offers treatment to the poor and needy at highly subsidized rates, sometimes free.
Currently, they have 7 OPDs to handle the daily load of 500 out patients, handling all types of cases in general. Current OPDs for General Medicine, General Surgery, Preventive Medicine, Dental, ENT, Eye, Panchakarma, Pediatrics, Gynecology, and Obstetrics. These OPDs are general OPDs dealing with all specialty care areas as well as general areas which makes them highly overloaded with patients. This project proposes to separate out super specialized work and general screening or treatment part. This separation will give adequate time, resources and management for both doctors and patients.
A team of well-trained medical staff, non-medical staff and experienced clinical technicians work round-the-clock to offer multiple services. The average footfall of patients is increasing year on year and there is an urgent need for a new OPD facilities. These 8 new OPDs will be super specialty areas so some of the patients from current OPDs will be shifted to these OPDs. New patients who need specialized care are also expected. A minimum of 100-150 additional patients per day will be treated in these special OPDs.
PROJECT COST: Built up space already exists within the hospital on the second floor, which will be used for the new OPDs. A total of eight specialty OPDs will be developed with separate examination areas and partitions for adequate nursing and clinical diagnosis. Furniture and fixtures will be procured as per the specialty being served in that OPD. Special toilets considering all age groups and waiting rooms with infotainment media will be established. Specialized software for OPD data management will be installed in every OPD. This includes computers, printers, scanners and software. Doctors will maintain real time data from registration to dispensing to follow up cycle making it more productive and efficient.
Construction cost of small OPD and examination chambers with separate nursing area, waiting rooms and toilets.
