Investing in teenage girls for a more just and stable world!
Africa Pads is a social enterprise that uses African fabric and resources to teach the Malawian women to make menstrual pads themselves. The village of Kamweko is currently producing Africa Pads. This process empowers the women to run a business and sell the pads locally. However, most schoolgirls cannot afford the pads. This grant will empower an African girl to stay healthy so that she can attend school full time, pursue her dreams and become a role model for young girls in her village.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.

The second phase of this grant was greatly impacted by the Covid 19 pandemic. The project had been at a standstill, but we are happy to report we are moving forward once again. Since the pandemic, costs have increased immensely throughout Malawi. Cost of goods, labor, and transportation have all increased. We have been analyzing the changes in these costs in comparison to the grant budget. We had to make minor adjustments to the grant to compensate for these higher costs. We are happy to report we are now ready to wire the next round of funds to Mzuzu Rotary in Malawi and begin construction at Bungano Primary and Elementary Schools in Chintheche, Malawi!
