Project Description

Region: Western Europe

Country: England

Location: London

Total Budget: $30,575

Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Water, sanitation and hygiene, Maternal and child health

A Rotary Global Grant Scholarship for Emma Weatherford is for one year, starting in 2019, at the Royal Veterinary College in London, England. Funds would be used to pay for the program costs. Ms. Weatherford's program of study, the Master of Science in One Health, relates most directly to Rotary's focus on fighting and preventing disease. One Health, a holistic approach to infectious diseases, guides effective interventions and health policy. This model recognizes that disease prevention requires more than administering medication to the sick. The health of animals and insects, which can transmit or harbor human diseases, plays a significant role in patterns of human disease, as do environmental factors such as water quality. Responding to the complex nature of human disease, One Health calls for cooperation between various disciplines to combat disease.

DDF contributions in grey are pending approval of the corresponding district committee.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
