Rotary Bangalore Spandana has taken up several projects under Basic Education and literacy among the Government schools in the Bangalore region. During our visits to assess the needs of various schools, we came across a Lower Primary Government School (Grade I to Grade V) in Gangasandra about 25 kilometers from the city, which is in a feeble state and not getting the attention it deserves.
The school caters to students of three villages and has a strength of 42 currently. The two classroom building was built in the 1950's and due to non maintenance has deteriorated over the years. The walls soak up rain water and has become weak, the roofs have cracked and any amount of repair cannot hide the cracks for more than a couple of weeks. Anything kept in the school over a long period of time gets infested with termites.
The school does have toilets, but they are open toilets (no roof) and does not have pits big enough to cater to the needs of the school. Fortunately, the area has good supply of water and there is good amount of green around the school. Due to the condition of the school parents hesitate to send their wards to the government school. The strength of the school varies from year to year due to this reason.
The two teachers and the students put in their best efforts to make the best use of the infrastructure and are enthusiastic about the school. The students are bright and deserving of good basic education and the teachers have been selflessly running the school without any support from the Government. It is well proven that good basic education helps the community at large in improving the health and therefore economic conditions.
A small video has been attached to demonstrate the condition of the school. We are looking to rebuild this school from scratch with the help of grants from Rotary International. The total cost of the project would be USD 40,000 which would include two classrooms, general purpose room and toilets. We seek USD 5,000 from your club and about USD 10,000 through DDF from your district. The funds will be used towards construction of the school and providing basic infrastructure such as black boards, desks, chairs, study material, etc

The members of Rotary Bangalore Spandana will use their contacts and business background to get the best infrastructure at reasonable costs and will supervise implementation of the project. We will work to ensure the provided infrastructure would increase enrollments at the school. The club would adopt the school and provide support and required additional infrastructure in the long run. The timeline for the project implementation is February 2019 to May 2019.
