The Luwero Triangle Compost Latrine & Water Catchment project will: dispose of human body waste while not polluting the ground water/land where people walk, eat, play & live; Compost human feces so that its a resource to fertilize crops; Obtain free safe water by catching & safely storing rainwater to be used for drinking, handwashing & cooking; Minimize impact to ground water table & educate the communities about safe water, sanitation, and hygiene.(Maternal/Child Health) This project will reduce water borne & ground borne pathogens that get into the water and make children sick or die which will inturn reduce the mortality rate for children. (Disease prevention/treatment) By safely disposing of human waste the spread of major diseases & ailments such as cholera, typhoid & diarrhea which are extremely common in Uganda will be combated. (Water/Sanitation) Provide the community with access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation. Provide a free & readily available fertilizer that enhances the crop yield for impoverished women. This project will take place in the following cities/villages: Kikyusa, Semuto, Wobulenzi, Kiziba, Butanza, Kampala, Dekabusa, Kalasa, Kikyusa and Kafo River. Estimated start date is: 09 January 2012 and the estimated completion date is: 28 October 2013.
