Project Description

Region: North America

Country: Mexico

Location: Tepic, Nayarit

Total Budget: $42,000

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

The Ministry of Health (Secretaría de Salud) grants the services with a great limitation of resources so the patient is forced to get them by their own means.

There are approximately 60 patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome who require a device called CPAP (Continuous positive airways pressure) to correct their breathing during sleep.

Patients with Sleep Apnea have a non-repairing superficial sleep that affects their daily physical activity. In these cases, the CPAP device is indicated to correct the air intake adequately during sleep.

CPAP is the treatment of choice in patients with moderate to severe symptomatic apnea.

The patients of the Ministry of Health do not have the resources to acquire or rent a device and many times they can not be descharged of the hospital because they depend on the device.

The project Sleep Apnea consists of acquiring 60 new or remanufactured CPAP devices with an approximate cost of 42,000 dlls.

The CPAP equipment would be delivered to the patient in loan quality by signing the loan agreement document

The Ministry of Health of Nayarit through the Pneumology Service would contribute to the control and monitoring of patients.

The acquisition of accessories would be at the patient's expense.

The CPAP will be returned to the Rotary club once it is not necessary (improvement, death, etc.) or misuse of it.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
