Thalassaemia is an inherited disease that causes children to develop incurable anemia. This type of anemia requires regular blood transfusions to survive. Currently, 3,000 babies are born with this disease annually in Indonesia. The Rotary Club of Semarang Kunthi would like to provide blood screenings within their community in order to decrease this number. They have already heightened awareness of the disorder in 12 of their districts cities by implementing mass media prevention campaigns and educating college campuses about the disease. Thalassaemia screenings for 2000 people. US$20 per screening per person . www.rotary-cegah-thalassaemia.com
Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
