Project Description

Region: Africa

Country: South Africa

Location: Durban

Total Budget: $84,375

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

Lily of the Valley is situated in Hammarsdale outside Durban. It consists of a number of homes, housing orphans and vulnerable children. Each home has a minder who feeds and cares for them. The children and staff total just on 150 persons. The problem they have is that the water supply in the area is extremely erratic and often goes off for days at a time which is adverse to the health of the children and also adds to the costs to purchase and source water at such times. This project will provide a consistent supply of water to the Village and includes provision for a borehole, as it will not be possible to only harvest rainwater due to the flat layout of the area. Rotarians from the RC Hillcrest will oversee and manage the project which should take between 4 and 6 moths to complete.
