Project Description

Region: North America

Country: Mexico

Location: Ameca, Jalisco

Total Budget: $56,250

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Overview of the project

What are your main objectives and who will be your beneficiaries?

Our goals are to help prepare elementary school students in an underserved area of Jalisco for life in the 21st century, by giving them the opportunity to learn computer skills. This will be achieved by having students perform some of their curricular activities from the regular material (for example, in history, reading, math) on the computer, under the supervision of the teacher in a classroom specially prepared for these activities. This same goal is currently being achieved in twenty-two elementary schools in the Ameca school district with computers purchased with funds from a grant from the Rotary Foundation in 2015. The project that is currently being planned is to provide computers and instruction to up to 30 elementary schools in five remaining areas of the Ameca school district (sector # 17), which serve up to 7400 students. These schools are located in poorer villages that surround the city of Ameca, 16 are primary schools (grades K-6) and 13 secondary schools (grades 7-9).
