The project will support Mr Kristian Salas first year of doctoral training on prevention and research in addiction.The main objectives are to document issues of substance use, develop interventions and to measure the impact of interventions on the lives of individuals. Focusing on vulnerable persons in the San Diego, California and Tijuana, Mexico region to increase the visibility of the needs among vulnerable populations and to document contextual factors that impact substance use. Kristian's research will be a way to give voice to the communities and persons who are marginalized and underrepresented in the substance abuse decision making process. This doctoral training will provide the opportunity to generate new information that can decrease the enormous disparities that face persons who use drugs.
