Project Description Region: Asia Country: India Location: Trichy Total Budget: $30,165 Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene About the Project Construction of Toilet Blocks in R C Middle School , Uyyakondan Thirumalai, Trichy-102. About the School R C Middle School , Uyyakondan Thirumalai is known to our Rotarians for the past many years. The School is 98 years old. It is situated in a place to help the people from the villages around. At present, it has a student strength of around 450.It is a Co Ed school. Most of the pupil are from poor back ground .The School is not collecting any fees from the students. The students, both boys and girls are suffering without proper toilet fecilities in the school. The School Head Mistress and the staff have been approaching our club for a help to build the toilet blocks. Role of Rotarians in the Project Last Year, Our Rotary Club of Tiruchirappalli Midtown has sponsored an Interact Club in this School. The interactors are smart and their Coordinator prompts them to keep the School clean and tidy. The environment is good with trees around. Our Club members felt the need of the Toilet Blocks for the school ,did inspect the existing fecilities and decided to help them. If the Project gets through, our Rotarians will periodically visit the place and see that the Project's purpose is fully served to the beneficiaries. Sustainability of the Project As we know, the Toilet Blocks are being required for everyday for every student, they need 100% maintenance with proper water fecility and drainage. The School Management and Staff have assured that the Toilet Blocks will be properly maintained. They will take care of the running costs of the Project from their own funds.
