Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: Pakistan

Location: Bahawalpur, South Punjab

Total Budget: $30,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

In Pakistan Umeed Partnership provides education at all levels irrespective of cast, creed or gender. The rate of education among the communities Umeed serve is the lowest in the world. These communities in urban areas live on the fringes and peripheries of the cities forming miserable slums and in rural areas live outside of the main villages and towns where there is no access to any type of development. They have no schooling, no health care, no sanitation facilities, no roads and no facilities for socialization.

A few years ago Umeed was invited by two dalit and most disadvantaged communities of Cholistan desert, Southern Punjab Pakistan where there was 100% illiteracy rate to begin middle schools one for the community of village 18/BC Bahawalpur and another for the community of village 52 D.B Yazman. Both the schools continue providing quality education to about 300 students both girls and boys. The Schools for their day to day running are funded totally by Umeed since the pupils are unable to pay anything for their education. Thus funds are needed for the following items and facilities for both the schools:

1). Class room furniture (desks and benches) for 300 students

2). Office and teachers' furniture

3). Text books and Stationary for 300 students

4). Uniforms for 300 students

5). study aid for both the schools

6). 4Computers, 2 Printer

7). Construction of boundary wall around ½ acre of land at Umeed Middle School 52/DB Yazman

8). Construction of 4 toilets for students and staff at Umeed Middle School 52/DB Yazman

9). Water turbine and overhead tank at Umeed Middle School 52/DB Yazman.

10). 3 feet high extension of already existing wall around one acre of land at 18/BC.

11). Security arrangements at both the schools barbed wire with steel bars over 1 ½ acres of boundary walls and other security equipments.

12).Upgrading class rooms at both the schools: repairs, white wash, roofs overhauling, repair of flooring.

13). Children play ground with swings; seesaw etc. at both the schools.
