Kamarajapuram with a population of 300, Palaniyandi nagar with a population of 800 get water supply from an overhead tank, fill by bore well, and a piping system. During summer the well becomes dry and there is scarcity of water. Realising their hardship the panchayat identified a 5 acres plot are removed top soil for a depth of 1 metre to form a pond using rain water harvesting. This mitigated the problem to some extent. It is proposed to be augmented by further deepening to store about 40,000 to 50,000 cubic metres from the existing capacity to 26,000 cubic metres. Heavy duty excavators will be used for deepening as the surface material is hard and compact. The excavated material will be used to form an embankment. In the second stage a check clam will be constructed to a length of 30m to store water and allow the excess to overflow.
