Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: India

Location: Moradabad

Total Budget: $50,160

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

UNDER THE PROJECT 600 FEMALES WOULD BE IMMUNISED AGAINST CERVICAL CANCER.

IN INDIA, the six most common cancer types were breast cancer (162,500 cases), oral cancer (120,000 cases), cervical cancer (97,000 cases), lung cancer (68,000 cases), stomach cancer (57,000 cases), and colorectal cancer (57,000). Together, these account for 49 per cent of all new cancer cases. Cervical cancer is ranked as the most frequent cancer in women in India. India has a population of approximately 365.71 million women above 15 years of age, who are at risk of developing cervical cancer. At any given time, about 6.6% of women in the general population are estimated to harbor Cervical HPV Infection.

The project would take place in girls government schools and beneficiaries would be girls from poor background. These families cannot afford the cost of vaccines. Female students of class 9 to 12 shall be vaccinated. They fall in the age group above 14 years of age and therefore, as per prescribed standards by GSK Pharma, 3 vaccines need to be administered.

The clubs will ask the school management to organise a Parent's meeting where complete details on cervical cancer, its cause and need of vaccination shall be explained. A consent form shall be obtained and then the vaccine shall be adminitered. The clubs will also undertake talks on female hygiene by gyneacologist.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
