Egypt is a country with a population 100 million with a birth rate of 2.9 which means that we have around 3 million children born each year; within this rate around 35 thousand children with congestive heart disease; 50% of which will need intervention either surgically or non-surgically; which is a big load on the economy of Egypt. Therefore, our support is direly needed and is fundamental in this area, because the National Health Insurance cannot cover all children with congenial heart disease, so they die on the waiting list unless they receive help from sources such as ours.
The project will target 17'000 of which two thirds will need intervention. The project will help save families in the process, by saving a child.
In addition, we will be training young doctors and specialized nurses for the aftercare of these children and to instruct on the non-invasive procedures available by transferring specialized knowledge.
We have already completed two global grants phase 1 66700 USD treating 25 patients and training doctors and nurses in Sohag Governorate and phase 2 98200 USD treating 35 patients and also workshop in Cairo . Phase 3 plan to treat 15 patients in Beni Suef who could not be treated in phase 2. Beni Suef is a very poor governorate and lack a lot of medical facilities and in great need for such service for poor children with heart defects. We also plan a workshop in beni suef similar to the workshops in Sohag and Cairo in the first two phases.
