Fresh water in the remote villages in the Sakata region has been identified as top priority. Clean water to drink, cook, and bath will help deter diseases that can lead to premature death.
The application to TRF will be submitted in May 2021 and hope for approval later in 2021. All contributions will be accepted after approval and work can begin within weeks after the funds have be released. The work should take two years.
The grant will fund the drilling of boreholes, installation of hand pumps, and construction of handwashing stations in five villages that don't have access to clean water. Educating villagers to form water councils, training some to be mechanics, and teaching area leaders how to monitor and evaluate the project are included to sustain the project after the grant is closed. The Blantyre club will handle all financial aspects approving expectendiures. Members will supervise construction, training, M&E activities in the villages, and file reports as required by TRF. The Downers Grove club will review the reports and submit the annual and final reports to TRF.
This project needs to receive some pledges to go to the next level. Please check the "Financing" tab to see the list of current pledges. Once the amount pledged is equal to the project budget, the status of the project will be automatically changed to "Fully Pledged". Click here to pledge support for this project.
DDF contributions in grey are pending approval of the corresponding district committee.
Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
