Project Description

Region: South-East Asia

Country: Nepal

Location: Kavre district

Total Budget: $35,153

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

The second wave of COVID-19 in Nepal started in mid-April 2021. With a sudden spike of new variants of coronavirus (B1617), the health system of Nepal has not able to cope with rising cases of coronavirus. The average rate of virus infection is more than 9000 a day with average death of 190 people a day for few weeks. According to the Ministry of Health & Population dated 19th May 2021, 480,418 are infected and 5,411 were dead due to the virus. Even WHO warns of the third wave of Covid-19 with the finding of new variants of covid-19 which is expected to be more deadly and fast-spreading.

The current coronavirus (B1617) is so deathly in some areas the infection rate is above 40% with a mortality rate of above 30%. In Nepal in every 10 minutes, one people die due to covid-19 as per the Nepal Government Ministry of Health. The Health System of Nepal is very much exposed and the government is planning to do a health emergency. Hospitals couldn't admit more patients as the current virus attacks the lung and lead to pneumonia that needs a high flow of oxygen. About more than 30% died due to lack of oxygen supplies.

Now, hospitals couldn't afford to admit more patients due to lack of sufficient resources, in some hospitals health workers are working in very dangerous environments with less protection. Basics things like PPE sets, Masks, Oxygen cylinders, Oxygen concentration machines (10 liters), etc are much needed for hospitals. In some places to control the spread of covid-19, the local government has set up Isolation wards but irony still this isolation center is not running properly due to lack of basic items.

The main objectives of the project

1. To support the hospitals with basic supplies like PPE sets, Masks

2. For smooth supply of oxygen through oxygen concentration machines and oxygen cylinders

3. To control the spread of covid-19 at the community level

This project will benefit covid-19 patients from Kavre district and its surrounding.
