Lake desilting in Murbad Taluk

History Logs

Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: India

Location: Murbad,Maharashtra, India

Total Budget: $72,800

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

The population around Murbad consists mainly of economically less privileged indigenous people. They subsist on agricultural income which requires large amount of water. Though areas around Murbad town in Maharashtra receive 54" or 140 cm rain every year, the rain water cannot be fully utilised for human use, as natural lakes in the area have silted over the years.

This projects addresses this problem by de-silting the lakes. De-silting will increase the holding capacity of the lakes and fulfill the water requirement of the local population for drinking, washing and agriculture. This requirement was identified by a local NGO which has been working in this area for many years.

We expect to complete the project in 6 months but before the monsoon sets in i.e. by May 2022. The project funds will be ulilised to remove silt and sediments from natural lakes and that silt will be use for embankments of the lake. The club members will volunteer time to supervise the work and will also contribute financially to the project
