Educate 500 young people (70% girls - 30% boys) between the ages of 15 and 20 on sexual and reproductive rights with a gender perspective in the 3 and 20 commune of Cali, through 36-hour circles on sexual education and comprehensive reproductive system building a safe and intimate space to speak in confidence; prioritizing horizontal dialogue between peers, strengthening their decision-making power and leadership skills. The projection of this project is 18 months.
Teen pregnancy is one of the main causes of multidimensional poverty. It denies the possibility of a girl or young man to finish her education and makes it difficult for her to participate in the labor market, condemning her to a subsequent pregnancy, economic dependence on a man, informal work and perpetuating dynamics of violence.
This occurs due to a multiplicity of factors, many of them invisible. Disinformation, collective imaginations, gender stereotypes and ignorance are inherited and only education can interrupt this cycle of poverty. In Colombia, 1 in 5 underage women is or has been pregnant, 19% of pregnancies are unwanted. Sex education, despite being compulsory by law since 1993, is not a reality in educational institutions. For this reason, it is urgent to create safe spaces for horizontal dialogue between peers to talk about what is not talked about: sexuality. Facilitate the development of skills so that young people can decide about their bodies, their sexuality and life, prevent violence and unwanted pregnancies, to build free and informed life projects. This space is POWERFUL: safe, voluntary and intimate. Through these spaces, they want to train 500 adolescents from Cali in their sexual and reproductive rights, addressing 375 women and 125 men.
