Global Grant Synopsis:
A Mammography Van at Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Cancer Hospital, Miraj. The city is recognized for Hindustani classical music and Medical services. Miraj is a medical hub for poor patients. The town has an unbelievable doctor patient ratio. Some of the doctors and Institutions are well known all over India. Many medical tourists visit from adjoining districts of North Karnataka, Goa, all over India and from Arab countries.
There are about 65 villages in Miraj Taluka having population more than 3 lakh. Miraj being a medical hub, Patients from the villages as well as other states, districts and cities, come to Miraj for undergoing medical treatment for various diseases. As Miraj Railway station, is a junction and very close to Karnataka, most of the patients from Karnataka come to Miraj for their Medical Treatment.
Many villages, surrounding Miraj Taluka in Sangli District as well as Kolhapur District, do not have any facility to diagnose cancer and related illness. Women in the village area, do not have any screening facility for breast cancer or even some time times they do not know that they are suffering from breast cancer due to lack of knowledge. Further women in villages do not go for any kind of screening due to the fear in their mind about the society, family etc. Early detection helps cancer patient to get cure for it. However, due to lack of knowledge they do not notice any symptoms not they do any type of screening. Due to failure of early detection, many women have to give up their life which shatters their family.
This Mammography van, will operate in the villages and remote places where this facility is not available. It will help the women in the remote area to have basic knowledge and awareness about the Breast Cancer and its preventive methods. This van will go to the villages, arrange camps and screening facility for all those women who intend to do it and the early detection will help eliminating or at least minimize the risk of breast cancer.
