The HPRC is a public hospital, offering free medical services to its patients; almost all of whom are from low-income families.
The main objective of the project is to create a hygienic, healthy and safe environment for the fragile mothers and their new-borns while still at the hospital; through renovation of the maternity wing, refurnishing the wing with beds and mattresses and provision of blood pressure monitors.
This aims at prevention of infections and contraction of diseases and as such reduce the morbidity and mortality rates in both the newborns (under fives) as well as their mothers.
The beneficiaries of the project will be girls and women of child bearing age that are served by the hospital; before, during and after giving birth to a period of 30 days; particularly those at the risk of contracting both communicable and non communicable diseases.
The project planned and organized by the RC Bujumbura Great Lakes in Solid partnership with three Other RCs(Bujumbura UMUCO; Bujumbura INYANGE and Bujumbura INTORE) and all Rotaract Clubs in Burundi (RAC Bujumbura; RAC Bujumbura Tanganyika; RAC Bujumbura Inyenyeri; RAC Bujumbura Ingoma; RAC Ngozi Kugasaka and RAC Bujumbura Great Lakes). The clubs will over see the execution and implementation of the project; its evaluation and eventual reporting on the same.
