Prevalence of DM and HTN in India is rising. These are the most frequent cause of permanent renal damage, leading to CRF (Chronic renal failure). In Solapur district alone there are more than 1200 Renal failure patients and about 750 of these are on regular maintenance dialysis. Patients with CRF need hemodialysis 2 to 3 times per week. Renal transplant is the best option for such patients, but as of now no such facility exists that may be approved by Government of India in Akluj. Therefore all CRF patients have to be on maintenance hemodialysis. Missing or delaying of dialysis adds to the morbidity and increases mortality rates. Additionally patients from traveling to neighboring towns to fulfill their dialysis needs. There is a need for dialysis unit to cater for maintenance dialysis of CRF patients. We propose to purchase five Dialysis Machines and install at Dr. Devadical Medical Center at Akuj which can provide an additional 400 - 500 maintenance dialysis per month. Our objectives is to help poor patients by providing about 400 plus dialysis per month at Dr Devadikar Hospital Akluj. Devadikar Hospital Akluj already has the required set up to run this dialysis project, viz, RO and DM plant, ICU back up, Nephrologist, Urologist, Physician, Dialysis technician, trained nursing staff and Infrastructure facility.
Devadikar Hospital Akluj wishes to start this project along with Rotary to serve the needy and poor patients at subsidized rates. We and Dr Devadikar Hospital Akluj will be committed to providing free dialysis to 200 below poverty line patients excluding consumables and medicine (approx. cost of Rs. 1200/- per dialysis) and 200 patients at subsidized
rates. This will save to the community of below poverty line a sum of about Rs.400000.00 per month. This relates to an approximate saving of more than Rs. 4 crore in a project span of 8 years.
