After improving surface wells in the communities surrounding Rawinji and St Charles Kauko primary schools, the demand for water exceeded the wells' capacity. The communities and school staff decided that boreholes were necessary to meet the demand. They asked RC Kisumu Winam and a local community based organization, New Vision CBO for assistance. During assessment Rotary and New Vision noted inadequate and unsafe toilets in the schools. The schools agreed to have the wells drilled on their property and that santitation improvements were needed. RC Kisumu Winam and RC Oakland have created global grant 2239333 to address these requests. Hydrological survey has demonstrated adequate water supply. The community assessment is bing finalized.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.

Due to stewardship concerns District 5170 refused to authorize the grant until the primary host sponsor has been changed to RC Sagam with a secondary host sponsor RC Kisii Central. The grant app. at rotary.org had to be unlocked, and sections rewritten. Resolution of these issues took a month. The grant has been resubmitted to RF.

My last post incorrectly named District 5170 as refusing to authorize, it was District 9212 that had the stewardship concerns, not D5170
