Resume

Implement a bakery that will generate funds to feed more than 1,000 people daily

Description

The San Juan Bautista de Amancaes Parish is located in the Rímac district, one of the poorest districts of the city of Lima. The pandemic (Covid-19) increased the level of poverty in this area by 6%.

Faced with this situation, the San Juan Bautista de Amancaes Parish, based on donations, decided to create 11 soup kitchen ("Comedores populares" in Spanish) which are dining rooms where poor people without economic resources attend to receive free food from social assistance entities. These soup kitchens are located in precarious homes in the hills surrounding the parish feeding 340 families daily.

The project goal of the Rotary Club San Isidro Este is to implement a bakery and with the sale of its products to more than 1,700 people throughout the community, be able to obtain economic resources that will help the setting up of a soup kitchen in the parish and continue the support for this people.

Video and photographs are attached.

Necessity valuations of the comunity

As a result of the pandemic, we decided to focus on donating essential food to the poorest areas of Lima.

Thanks to this opportunity we met Father Emerson Velaysosa Fernandez from the San Juan Bautista de Amancaes parish, who has been doing commendable work in the most precarious areas of the Rímac district, where he has been helping 11 soup kitchens daily, providing food products to the people.

Recently, Father Emerson asked us if there was a possibility of creating a bakery, which would be set up in the social areas of the parish in order to sell these products to the community.

The income of this activity will generate the necessary resources to enable a soup kitchen which will feed more than 340 families of extreme poverty daily (@1000 persons)

Project Impact

By operating the bakery and the daily sale of its products, sufficient resources will be generated to enable the soup kitchen and thus be able to benefit more than 1,000 people who will have daily meals.

The soup kitchen will use better quality kitchen supplies to prepare the meals contributing to have a better health in the kitchen and preventing people from getting sick. Moreover, the large space of the soup kitchen will allow us to prepare more meals and help more people worthily.

This project aims to improve the quality of life of these people who need help on a daily basis, and we hope that with the soup kitchen the goal can be achieved.

Sustainability

We have made a pre-feasibility study for the implementation of the bakery, it has been projected based on an economic-social analysis and we have concluded that the project is viable.

The study was carried out in an evaluation period of 5 years and was determined that the daily sale of the bakery will grow progressively until reaching a sale of more than 6,000 breads in the second year. This will generate the necessary income to maintain the soup kitchen. The integral equipment of the bakery understands a total investment of S /. 137,000 (US$ 34,900).

Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
