Project Description

Region: South America

Country: Brazil

Location: Campo Mourão

Total Budget: $44,230

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

It is common knowledge that Pharmaceutical Assistance brings together a set of health actions in order to protect and recover medicines by promoting access to and their rational use. Therefore, in this context, it is worth noting that "the provision of quality pharmaceutical care is essential for public health. Raising the flag of AF in the municipality, we launched the itinerant pharmacy project (Pharmaceutical Assistance under 4 wheels), promoting the following:

- A utility vehicle (Van) will be prepared to travel through the neighborhoods with the presence of a pharmacist from the Expanded Nucleus of Family Health and Primary Care (NASF), who will carry out the dispensing of medicines (cast to be defined), which, currently , are taken exclusively at the Special Pharmacy of the Health Department;

- Access to medicines close to home facilitates adherence to treatment. Patients will not need to go to the Health Department to request or get their medication, which further improves the quality of treatment and the convenience of the Municipality;

- The initiative is in line with the guidelines of the new National Primary Care Policy, aiming to facilitate the adherence to the medicines necessary for the treatment of diseases such as depression, personality disorders and Neurological diseases;

- The mobile pharmacy service will also be provided to patients with special needs, who are unable to travel to have access to medicines (home care);

- This FA format will allow the pharmacist to perform his/her role in a more efficient, targeted way, and with greater availability of time to guide patients on the correct use of medications, drug interactions, medication reconciliation and adverse reactions. This is due to the fact that the Mobile Pharmacy will follow a fixed schedule, which will locally serve each region of the municipality, reducing the number of visits at the Basic Pharmacy headquarters, which provides better conditions for quality PA both in the Basic Pharmacy and in the Mobile Pharmacy;

- - The pharmacist is the medication professional, qualified to take responsibility for the outcome of the pharmacotherapy, ensuring that the patient leaves the pharmacy with no doubts about how to correctly administer their medications and why they will use them, feeling welcomed in a relationship without physical barriers, close and humanized;

- Project consisted in the acquisition of a RENALT MASTER L3H2 136 CV vehicle worth $44.230,00
