The project aims at providing 6 energy saving jikos, 200 seats and 40 tables for 200 children currently attending early childhood education and nutrition programs in three sites and provide an opportunity for another 130 children in the waiting list to join.
The project provides learning and nutrition supplements to 250 children between 2 and 6 years of age in the slums where most of the parents in the informal settlements have no clear sources of income or its below one dollar a day. Currently the centres are congested which negatively affects learning since facilities are overstretched.
Low cost metal fabricated seats and tables have been proven to have low maintenance costs compared to wooden furniture. The furniture and improved jikos provided will have a positive impact on the learners, parents and the surrounding community by increasing access, retention, transition and improved health of children in the area.
The project also seeks to provide a clean water solution to the pupils and the families around the projects. The NGO hopes to achieve this by sinking three wells in the three centres.
In the execution of our mandate we often come across very poor children who are vulnerable or living in difficult circumstances. These children requires to be put in a boarding school environment for safety and education purposes. We are looking for funds to expand the boarding capacity of a school that we sponsor to cater for these needs.
