Project Description

Region: South America

Country: Brazil

Location: Barbosa Ferraz

Total Budget: $31,153

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

The Association of Parents and Friends of the Exceptional of Barbosa Ferraz, maintainer of the Escola Professora Yara Serafim - Infantile Education and Elementary School, in the Special Education modality, aims to promote schooling and articulate actions for the defense and rights, prevention, guidance, provision of of services and support for the family, aimed at improving the quality of life of people with special needs, with a view to building a fair and solidary society.

The specialized service provided by the Institution is one of the most important within our municipality and region, integrating the community in general and guaranteeing the effectiveness of the social rights guaranteed by the Constitution to people with disabilities.

In the municipality of Barbosa Ferraz, this institution serves 116 students with a diagnosis of intellectual disability, whether or not associated with other disabilities or disorders, with significant deficits, both in intellectual functioning and in social and health relationships that demand from the school context pedagogical practices and that allow continuous and/or pervasive support.

Age range of students served by APAE

Essential Stimulation: 0 to 03 years and 11 months

Pre-School Education: 04 to 05 years and 11 months

Elementary School: 06 to 15 years and 11 months

Youth and Adult Education: From 16 years of age

This institution has Municipal, State and Federal financial resources, however, it needs to always be counting on partnerships to meet the needs of our students due to the specifics of each one. It is worth noting that today many of our students are autistic and according to the World Health Organization (WHO), this is a condition that affects 1 in 160 children in the world and 2 million people in Brazil alone, children and adults who need care and materials. differentiated.

Faced with so many needs, we prioritize for this Project the acquisition of materials and equipment for the physiotherapy room, since those that exist here are totally deteriorated (20 years of use), adapted materials and utensils that will improve the quality of life of the students of this institution and also training for professionals. Within APAE, physiotherapy is of paramount importance in order to reduce late complications, perform motor rehabilitation, through specific resources, stimulate potential, enabling a better quality of life for students, physical, psychological, social and educational well-being. The demand of students who need physical therapy is very high, of the 116 students enrolled, most need this service. In order for the physiotherapy work to be of quality, in addition to quality materials and equipment, the professional must be training, since the physiotherapist's action at school in relation to the identification of Neuropsychomotor Development, as well as in the clarification, exchange of his experiences and teachers about education and health, about how to act with students.

Next to this institution, we have the Santa Rita de Cássia Elderly Home as neighbors, which serve 28 elderly people and the intention with this project is that this room can also serve these elderly people, knowing that they are cared for by a physiotherapist of the municipality, but not they have a physiotherapy room and no adequate equipment.

Finally, it is important to highlight how this project can contribute to improving the quality of life of both our students and the elderly residents of the Lar do Idoso Santa Rita de Cássia in this municipality. About 90% of the families of students served by APAE with low purchasing power, many in a situation of vulnerability and social risk, are unable to maintain a particular treatment for their children, much less take them to a health center, it is at school that this treatment takes place.

- To structure the APAE - Association of Parents and Friends of the Exceptional of the City of Barbosa Ferraz, with a Physiotherapy Clinic.

- Give special treatment to people who need dignified care.

- Special Children and Youth who need physical conditioning, improvement of psychomotor development.

- Social relevance in assisting people with disabilities.

- It will cover care for the elderly in this city, who live in the Santa Rita de Cássia Elderly Home.
