Hiep Duc is a mountainous district of Quang Nam province in Central Vietnam, with a population of 40,281 people.
The main incomes of those living in Hiep Duc are from agriculture, forestry, trade, service, and industry. The ethnic communities we are working with, if not too isolated, get some work in the acacia forests and some on rubber plantations. Farming work is paid for with rice as they are cash poor communities. As the parents and grandparents are rarely educated, they have few employment opportunities.
At the Hiep Duc High School where we are working and establishing a Scholarship Program, there are 780 students with 133 being ethnic (Xa Dang and M'Nong). The school's boarding facilities have been seriously downgraded that highly risk as well as unhygienic to students who live in the boarding school.
The students who stay at the boarding school will be the main beneficiaries from the project. 80 ethnic students, who live far from school usually stay in the boarding facilities. If they didn't, they would not be able to attend school. This facility enables them to continue their education.
The project will rehabilitate the toilet block adjacent to the school and dormitories with gender separated toilet units.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
