With the slogan "Imagine Rotary" we want to imagine and act for a more just and egalitarian world, in which more and more women have a voice and gender inequality is fought.
And when we envision Rotary... we envision a world where we can transform education and ensure that girls and boys are prepared to create a more equitable and just world. Where peripheral girls have a voice, can learn, lead and can be protagonists of their own history and agents of change in their community.
"Girls Leadership & Empowerment" project meets this proposal, providing conditions for peripheral and vulnerable girls between 15 and 17 years old to be prepared, trained and empowered to connect them to their own voice, so that they can to be agents of change in your neighbourhood, in your community and in society.
1. Empower adolescents and communities to make the vital changes needed to address the root causes of discrimination against girls, exclusion and vulnerability.
2. Work with adolescents and communities in preparing for and responding to crises and overcoming adversities
3. Develop leadership skills and abilities to transform your realities
4. Make them protagonists and multipliers in the community by driving their own developments
5. Become aware of their possibilities of action with repertoires and inputs learned in
training
Community Needs Assessment
In our research, we identified that the teenager listens to the teenager, that is, the success rate is much higher when not the specialist, but the young person himself talks with his peers.
The School of Leadership and Empowerment for Girls Project aims to address the needs of Preparation, Training and Empowerment of adolescent girls, so that they acquire skills and abilities that help them transform their realities so that they are young protagonists of their own stories and communities, driving their own developments.
* Leading, having their voices heard and respected through participation and influence in decisions political, social and economic that impact their lives and act as agents of change for the promotion and defense of their rights.
* Progress, living and growing free from violence, developing in a safe and inclusive.
* Deciding and being able to make decisions about their own lives.
So that we can impact the largest number of teenagers, we have structured a form of practical application by teenagers, of content and knowledge about the various themes of the universe of this target audience. The teenagers will be mentored both in the development of the action and in the application of the content, whether in workshops or lectures they will organize. This should also happen during the program, through humanitarian projects/actions in their reality, neighborhood or school that will influence and positively impact
over 4000 teenagers.
The girls who will participate in the project will undergo a selection where a profile will be surveyed through tests and interviews with psychologists. We want to bring in girls who already have influential characteristics in their locality.
On My Rotary's page on Promoting Peace, there is the following information: "Currently, 70 million people are displaced as a result of conflict, violence, persecution and human rights violations. Half of them are
children."
When we look at the context of the "girls" the scenario is even more unequal. In a survey carried out by UNESCO in 2019 in Brazil, we have:
* girls are the main victims of violence;
* Brazil is the fourth country in the world in the ranking of child marriage;
* we still have high levels of early pregnancy;
* the country has only 15% of women in politics;
* the girls' voices are not heard.
In the survey carried out in Maringá, some numbers are highlighted (complete survey attached)/2022:
* 1164 adolescents living in extreme poverty (family income per capita between R$0 and R$105.01);
* 376 births whose mother was between 15 and 19 years old;
* 78 adolescents (girls 13 to 17 years old) victims of violence joined CREAS;
* In the 1st semester of 2022, the municipality monitored 15 female adolescents, aged 12 to 17 years, in a shelter service.
In addition, there is also gender inequality, a topic that is not a problem today, it is something that has accompanied us for some time, because we live in a patriarchal society, distinctions have been created between what is a "girl thing" and "thing boy". According to the Plan Brasil survey "For being a girl", 65.4% of girls take on the task of cleaning the house, against 11.4% of boys. The same survey highlights that 37% of girls believe that they do not have the same rights as boys and that 1 girl in 5 knows another girl who has already suffered violence and that 13.7% of girls aged 6 to 14 work or have already worked.
We held meetings with municipal entities that already work with this public and collected data that prove and justify the importance of projects aimed at the empowerment of girls, together with the secretary of social assistance and the secretary of children. We also used research carried out in the municipality of Maringá, Social Diagnosis and mapping of care indicators through the CRAS - Public Social Assistance Unit, responsible for organizing and offering basic social protection services of the Unified Social Assistance System - SUAS .

TIMELINE
The Leadership and Empowerment training program is composed of themes that allow girls to learn about Leadership, rights and spaces of social control, about what happens in each of these spaces, allowing them to recognize and act in them. The project also focuses on the advocacy process within the right-guarantee environments.
The training will target girls from 15 to 17 years old, peripheral and in a state of vulnerability.
The class will consist of 30 selected girls, in a 4-month program, with weekly 4-hour meetings in a total of 16 meetings, planned to be from February 2023 to May 2023. 3 technical visits will also be promoted, extra time for the meetings, during the program period, at the City Council, the Public Ministry and at a private company to be selected.
As a practice, each girl will be prepared to elaborate and carry out a social project in response to a need in her place of coexistence, in her school, neighborhood or community.
Composition of the Training Program:
1. The first part of the program will consist of 10 weeks and will focus on "Leadership". It will be carried out by Dale Carnegie, one of the world's leading companies in leadership training on this topic and now has a course prepared for teenagers - Generation Next. We believe that real changes occur with emotional evolution and behavioral development and this is what we aim for in the preparation of girls.
* Modules that will be worked on by Dale Carnegie: Self-Esteem, Self-Confidence, Anxiety Control, Effective Communication, Human Relations
2. The second part of the program consists of 6 weeks focusing on technical empowerment Empowerment with distance learning and face-to-face classes. For the EAD classes we will have the partnership of the Bianchini Institute where the following topics will be addressed:
* citizenship
* Child and Adolescent Statute.
In person:
* Career and job market, which will be complemented by a technical visit to a company to be selected;
* Institutions and law as the purpose of, in addition to knowledge, guidance as to environments guaranteeing rights. There will be 2 technical visits as mentioned extra hours, being City Hall and Public Ministry;
* Women's health with topics such as harassment, physical and emotional health;
* Talks with women and success stories;
Practical application with mentoring
* Social projects/humanitarian actions with orientation to needs assessment and teaching in preparation and execution.
