The needs include (1) the high unemployment rate, particularly among the youth; (2) low vocational skill levels; and (3) low family incomes are due to over-dependence on one economic activity of fishing using rudimentary technology and skills. At the same time, there is substantial under-utilized land that could be farmed to produce income.
Project objectives: (1) To establish an agricultural skills training initiative in the Luwerere Community in Jinja, Uganda on arable land to be provided by Arise Africa Internatioinal(AAI), who are also the administrators of the Christian school for deaf children; (2) To procure from local suppliers in Uganda a tractor and associated farm implements as part of the on-the-farm skills training program; and (3) To implement project sustainability through the formation of a savings and credit farmers' cooperative that will provide small loans and other financial services to the farmers. The project timeline is one year. The project funds will be used to purchase a farm tractor and accessories; seed, fertilizer and related supplies; sufficient fuel, oil and supplies to operate and maintain the tractor for one year; transportation costs; training; monitoring and evaluation of the project; and project management. Six members of the Rotary Club Source of the Nile and eight members of the Bristol, VA/TN Noon Rotary Club will be involved in this global grant project.
Your project is "Fully Pledged". This means the amount of the pledges is equal to the total budget of the project. Now the project needs to be finalized and go through the approval process with The Rotary Foundation. This process gets started on the administration page.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.

The application was uploaded in the last week in April 2023. The project is fully funded. All authorizations were received with the exception of that from the Foundation Chairman of the Uganda District 9213. His committee has submitted a list of questions and additional documents that they require in order for them to authorize the project. We have uploaded some of the requested documents and are awaiting some of the documents for the Rotary Club Source of the Nile, which they are in the process of completing. We expect to have all of the information requested by the Foundation Chairman of District 9213 uploaded by the end of July 2023.
