Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: India

Location: Palwal, Haryana

Total Budget: $40,747

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

Blindness is one of the most significant health related social problems in India.Cataract and Refractive errors are the major causes of blindness and low vision. However, a majority of the cases can be avoided with proper eye hygiene and accessibility to proper medical facilities. According to WHO estimates, about 70% of Indian public hospitals are situated in cities whereas according to the Registrar General & Census Commissioner office about 70% of the Indian populaiation lives in rural areas.

RCD Panchshila Park assessed that there was a growing need for accessible and affordable quality eye care facilities for people living in the rural areas. Normally, with no resident eye specialist , they have to travel long distances to get proper eye care treatment and pay high fees which they may not afford.

Keepng this in mind , RCD Panchshila Park decided to provide a Mobile Opthalmic Clinic to take eye care services to the doorstep of the unreached in remote villages and areas in the district of Palwal and Nuh. This Mobile Opthalmic Clinic shall be given to ABLE Hospital, Palwal. This Clinic shall allow the hospital to increase its outreach and be able to treat more patients at an affordable cost. In addition to covering the rural landscape, this Clinic shall move on the adjoining national highways and stop at roadside eating places ( Dhabas) to check the eyesight of the Truck drivers stopping there for meals or rest. The check up shall be free and spectacles shall be given on the spot.

The Mobile Opthalmic Clinic will be fully equipped with trained personnel to provide quality eye care to all.

The Clinic shall have State of Art equipment like Automated Refractometer with Kretometer, Ophthalmic tables , Vision testing LCD etc. and will be connected to the base hospital through internet. Patients shall be screened for cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, refractive errors and corneal blindness. It will also have an eye glass dispensing unit for those in need of spectacles.

The timeline for completion of project shall be 3 months from date of final approval of RI office.Approx. around end of September,2023.

The Project funds shall be used for purchase of bare chassis , fabrication, electrical fittings and desired medical equipment as required for an opthalmic clinic.

Club members shall be involved as below:
