Project Description

Region: Africa

Country: Zimbabwe

Location: Zimbabwe Africa

Total Budget: $67,225

Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Basic education and literacy

This Breakfast Feeding Program for kids that attend rural bush schools in Zimbabwe Africa. This feeding program was established in 2018 by Rotarian, Gib Leonard, from the Washington DC Club 7620 and The Buy a Brick Foundation. PLEASE UNDERSTAND HOW IMPORTANT THIS PROGRAM IS.

1. In hundreds of case children may go days without food.

2. This Breakfast Feeding Program has encouraged kids to come to school so they can get

a hot meal each morning and keeps them focused on their school lessons.

3. At the end of December 2019 right before the Christmas break 12,000 children were

being fed. Then Covid hit and the schools in Zimbabwe were shut down and then opened then shut down for a period of a year and a half.

LETS FAST FORWARD FROM COVID 2020 TO NOW.

1. Zimbabwe, Africa has been in a drought 4 of the past 5 years. The corn crop

production has dropped to extreme lows.

2. Zimbabwe is trying hard to import corn which can then be ground into a finely ground up corn which is their main Staple food for the country. This staple food is called Mealie Meal

TOGETHER WE CAN SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. WE NEED TO IMPORT CORNS, GRIND THE CORNS AND DISTRIBUTE TO THE SCHOOLS.

1. Corns are available in the neighboring country of Zambia. Because the corns are for

the children and within The Ministry of Educational System there are NO DUTY TAXES DUE.

2. We have the boots on the ground who have been grinding the corn in the past so this program can be re-started in a short period of time.

3. We need a 7 ton truck to transport the corn from Zambia into Zimbabwe.

4. We need yearly sponsorship of $24,615 from other Rotarian Clubs around the world to

purchase the corn.

5. We need yearly sponsorship of $7735 for fuel.

6. We need to purchase a $34,875usd 7 ton truck.

7. We have been given the list of all the Primary Schools in the Hwange West School District which also has every child's name on it. Please join us with your Grant Dollars to reach over 21,000 children by providing a hot Breakfast with Mealie Meal EACH DAY of the School Year. The groundwork and distribution has been set up and in operation for years, now we need to continue to supply the ground up corns and expand this program.

Please Join us in this Most Needed Breakfast Feeding Program that has been established for years. The Buy a Brick Foundation and Rotarian Gib Leonard have over $35,235usd in this program to date. Together the Solution to this Feeding Program will be realized and the goal of feeding over 21,000 children a day with be accomplished. Thanks for saying YES.

Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
