Jawhar is a tribal tahsil of thane District in Maharashtra and is inhabited in 272 hamlets called "PADAs" Its total population is 1,11,039, out of which 99932 (90%) belongs to scheduled tribes &1106 (1%) belongs to Scheduled caste. Out of 22311 families, 18497 (83%) fall under Below Poverty Line. This population is spread over large geographical area (153822 acres) i.e. population density is app 1 family per 7 acre. In each Pada, population varies from 100 to 600.
▪ Most of the villages do not have Tar road. During monsoon some of the villages remain unapproachable for vehicles
▪ Some of the villages have no electricity.
▪ There are no industries or major commercial centre. Therefore the population depend mainly on agriculture. As the terrain is hilly, cultivable land is limited to 76817 acres and major part of this is slopy land. Agriculture depends on rain for water. There is hardly any facility for irrigation. Hence most of the farmers grow only one crop.
Thus in spite of many government schemes, the people are extremely poor & lack basic amenities for health, education, irrigation & employment.
The Proposed Project will provide Check Dam for Irrigation & for Drinking water, foot overbridge for Students to reach their school, Farm pond for conserving water, Solar Home Lights & Solar Pump.
This project will benefit 2500 trible population living in the area.
