Burn injuries are one of the major causes of disability globally. The burden of burns and its management falls disproportionately on low income and middle-income group in the developing countries. The situation in India is particularly worrying and the situation is no different in northern part of India, area covered in our Rotary district 3080. As per published literature, in 2019, more than 23000 fire related deaths were estimated all over India, which is 20% of global burden of death due to burns.
The burn survivors are financially stressed, vocationally challenged and socially secluded as they suffer from
Lots of deformities and functional disabilities. The burden of burn is three times higher in women (aged 16-49) than men. The women are more prone to such defects mainly due to unsafe cooking and kitchen practices, homicides due to domestic violence and dowry related conflicts.
Rotary chandigarh shivalik proposes to treat the deformities of burn survivors with the help of a team of 4 plastic surgeons of Tricity institute of plastic surgery at Landmark Hospital, sector 33C, Chandigarh. The hospital and its team has decided to treat these patients at much subsidised rates.
The treating surgeons shall provide free surgical and post-surgery care for all cases.
The anaesthesia doctor shall be paid 50 percent of their fee.
Rest of the Hospital bill shall be borne by Rotary through Global Grant.
The average cost will be 75000/- per surgery which includes medicines, disposables, special dressings and garments, minor touch up procedures etc. for simple and complex deformities.
We propose to do 50 surgeries over the span of 2 years. The total cost will be 37,50000/-( 45180$).
