MERSIN ROTARY Club's HUMANITARIAN GLOBAL GRANT PROJECT
Donation of Diagnostic Equipments for Pediatric Surgery Department of the Peripheral Hospital of Obstetrics-Gynecology and Pediatrics -Mersin/Turkey
The Rotary Club of Mersin/D:2430 decided to initialize a Global Grant Project in the Rotary year 2013-2014 .
Mersin Province is at the eastern coast of the Mediterranean sea and the city of Mersin has a wide and busy harbor in southern Turkey.
There are three hospitals in the city. One of them is only for women and children. It is called the Peripheral Obstetrics-Gynecology and Pediatrics Hospital . It's a new hospital working since 2007. The hospital has 306 beds and belongs to the ministry of health. This hospital is 10 kilometers away from the center of the city and is serving for peripheral poor and immigrant neighborhoods.
There are 85 physicians working at this hospital. Most of the doctors are experts in different fields of pediatric diseases. Number of pediatricians are 31 and the number of specialists in obstetrics and gynecology are 22.
At this hospital pediatric surgery carries out a large number of operations. The yearly number of outpatients is 660.000.From these patients, 4.000 are pediatric surgery patients, 440.000 are pediatric patients and 256.000 are women patients.
The number of births per year is about 9000 and the numbers of children surgeries are 4000 per year.
Population of the Mersin province is about two million people and is increasing permanently. The population of city Mersin is approximately one million people.
Many people from eastern and southeastern Anatolia migrated to the city of Mersin.
Most of the people who migrated to Mersin are living in peripheral neighborhoods and the number of residents in the neighborhoods surrounding the city of Mersin is approximately 370.000 people.
These neighborhoods have a large number of births and the pregnant women get the deliveries at this peripheral hospital .Also the sick children are being treated in this hospital.
The average number of children in each family is 5-6. Because of this, the population growth rate in Mersin province is about 3% per year.
These people are poor with low socio-economic levels and have no health insurance. For this reason, children with congenital anomalies are born.
The majority of the anomalies seen at this hospital are the urinary tract abnormalities. These anomalies can be detected only by devices for diagnostic purposes.
Pediatric surgeons who work at this hospital, because the lack of diagnostic equipments are not able to do the correct diagnosis of the urinary track anomalies. There are every month approximately ten children who have urinary tract abnormalities.
Children born with these anomalies are sent to cities nearby Mersin to be detected for the anomalies and the operation modes.
The Peripheral Obstetrics-Gynecology and Pediatrics Hospital of the city of Mersin really needs those diagnostic devices.
That is the reason why the pediatric surgeons can't do the surgical interventions and therapeutic operations for those children. If the surgery is not performed, renal failures and deaths can be the results of these anomalies.
Rotary Club of Mersin decided to help those children and initialize a Global Grant donation by buying one complete Systo -Uretero-Nephroscopy device System during the Rotary year 2013-2014.
We need your help for this project. Please share with us and support this humanitarian project. We hope that you will be with us in Service Rotary.
You should not have to donate with large amounts, you can donate as much as your budget can afford.
The budget of the Project is as follow:
Complete systo-uretero-nephroscopy system: 37000-$
Total cost : 37000-$
PLEASE HELP THOSE CHILDREN AND SHARE OUR PROJECT BY DONATING.
Yours Respectfully,
Rtn.Mustafa Belle
