The project consists of the rehabilitation of six primary health centres in the slums og Lagos. Many of them are run down and are in dire need of assistance in the antenatal care and delivery of pregnant women.
Ultrasound scanning is now an essential tool in the antenatal care of women. None of these primary health centres have in-house ultrasound scanning facilities. All the women have to go to private commercial diagnostic centres around Lagos at great cost.
The project involves the provision of basic ultrasound scanning equipment in each of the health centres and the training of the staff in the techniques of ultrasound scanning.
It also involves the replacement of debilitated delivery beds in the labour rooms of the centres, and the provision of delivery kits to 200 pregnant women in each of the health centres.
The two clubs involved are:
The Rotary Club of Ogudu G.R.A.
And The Rotary Club of Idi-Araba
We have 4 members who are medical personnel who will be training the workers in the health centres how to perform ultrasound scanning
Other Rotarians will be involved in giving health talks to the pregnant women, and mobilisation of women in the communities to use the ultrasound scanning facilities free of charge, courtesy of the Rotary Foundation.
