Nepal's rural economy is largely agrarian, with livestock farming playing a vital role in household income. Goats are particularly suitable for Nepal's terrain and climate - thriving in both the hills and the Terai. However, traditional farming practices, lack of technical knowledge, and limited market access restrict women from maximizing potential benefits.
Empowering women through goat farming directly addresses these gaps. By providing women with the skills, resources, and networks to manage profitable goat enterprises, the project promotes gender equality, reduces poverty, and strengthens rural resilience - aligning with Nepal's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
Objectives
1. To empower rural women economically through sustainable goat farming.
2. To improve household nutrition and income security by increasing the production of goat milk and meat.
3 . To build women's technical and entrepreneurial capacity in livestock management and agribusiness.
4. To promote collective action through the formation of women-led cooperatives and self-help groups.
This project supports 380 members of 75 families with a pair of good-quality goats, goat sheds, fodder, feeders, training, and insurance. As per the business plan, with a pair of good breeds of goats along with training etc , in 3 years one family can earn upto USD.10,000.
All the funds will be used for project's purpose, and Rotary Club member will involve in every step of the projects.
