TB is an infectious bacterial disease that most commonly affects the lungs. It's transmitted from person to person through droplets from the throat and lungs of people with the active respiratory disease. India has the highest burden of tuberculosis (TB) in the world, accounting for about 25% of the global TB burden. A tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, and laboratory tests. A chest X-ray is a primary tool for diagnosing tuberculosis (TB) in the lungs, also known as pulmonary TB. A chest X-ray can help detect abnormalities in the lungs, such as lesions, that may indicate TB. However, a chest X-ray alone cannot definitively diagnose TB. One of the most significant hurdles in India's fight against TB is the alarming number of missed or undiagnosed cases. It is estimated that nearly 40% of TB cases in the country remain undetected or unreported each year. This gap is exacerbated by limitations in traditional diagnostic methods, which often fail to detect early-stage TB or drug-resistant strains. Hence, the AI-driven solution is designed to address these pressing challenges by revolutionizing how TB is detected and managed. Using advanced machine learning algorithms and data-driven insights, the technology enhances the accuracy, speed, and scalability of TB diagnostics.
The Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (PMTBMBA) is a scheme launched in 2022 to encourage community involvement in the fight against tuberculosis (TB). This ambitious initiative reflects the vision set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the 2018 End TB Summit, where he pledged to achieve a TB-free India by 2025.
Nashik municipal corporation (NMC) caters to need of 20 lac population, catered by 35 medical centres. They are short of Digital x-ray machines which play a vital role in early diagnosis of TB patients. Under various schemes of the central govt., the NMC has appointed City TB Officer (CTO) and a team of doctors, Asha workers and other staff is in place. The NMC receives funds, however, they are barely sufficient to cover staff salaries, other expenses towards awareness, advocacy, medicines and supplementary nutritional diets.
The CTO has approached Rotary Club of Nasik, for supporting the above initiative, by donating 2 sets of digital x ray machine for their health centres. They have well trained staff to operate the set up. We also intend to cover the maintenance of machines with 5 years' of CMC. The consumable expenses like films, papers, power and others shall be covered by NMC.
The project is extremely viable, which will benefit almost 30000 patients per month. It will also help elevate Rotary's image with Govt as well as public. Rotary has already played pivotal role in eradication of polio. This project will mark Rotary's presence felt in TB eradication too!
