Duration: 5 Years
Host Club: Rotary Club of Kiboga, District 9213 (Uganda)

Overview
The Rotary Club of Kiboga, in partnership with the National Forestry Authority (NFA), Rotary Vijana Poa, Community Forest Management (CFM) Groups, and Rotary Community Corps (RCCs), is leading a five-year initiative to restore 100 hectares of degraded forest within the Gunga Central Forest Reserve. The project integrates environmental restoration, biodiversity conservation, and community livelihood development.
Objectives
Restore degraded land using indigenous tree species such as mahogany, Milicia excelsa (muvule), and medicinal trees.
Rehabilitate 10 natural water sources within the Muzizi River catchment.
Register and strengthen Rotary Community Corps (RCCs) for long-term stewardship.
Introduce apiculture (beekeeping) to create sustainable livelihoods and support pollination.
Protect wildlife species, including monkeys, reptiles, and birds.
Build youth and community capacity through mindset-change programs under Rotary Vijana Poa.
Expected Outcomes
100 hectares of forest are restored and sustainably managed.
Enhanced biodiversity and protected wildlife habitats.
200 youth trained in apiculture, water source maintenance, and environmental management.
Improved ecosystem services: water regulation, soil stabilisation, and carbon sequestration.
Creation of green jobs, improved household incomes, and potential carbon credit revenue.
Sustainability
The project embeds long-term sustainability through RCC leadership, youth enterprises, and community forest management groups. Income-generating components (apiculture and carbon credits) will sustain conservation efforts beyond the project timeline. Continuous mentorship by Rotary Vijana Poa ensures community ownership and lasting behavioural change.
