The community of Cabezas in the province of Cordillera in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, has approximately 31,000 inhabitants with more than nine nearby smaller towns with schools, playing fields and agricultural homes/properties. Distance to Santa Cruz is 120 kilometers from the town itself. It is located on the paved international highway to Camiri, which connects to Chile and Argentina.
Community meeting: This meeting was held in the auditorium of the Health Center of Cabezas where a member of our Rotary Club Santa Cruz de la Sierra Equipetrol, Alejandro Salazar Justiniano, set up a meeting with the city authorities explaining what Rotary is, our mission and work. All of the attendees were asked what they consider to be the most pressing needs of the community. All the authorities participated and agreed that the sectors of most concern and need are health and education.
The Cabezas Health Center has identified the need to improve their diagnostic capability to offer better service to patients. The donation of a modern X-Ray machine will help to diagnose illnesses more precisely and efficiently, reducing wait times and improving medical attention, avoiding the need to travel to Santa Cruz for an initial diagnosis.
Objectives:
Provide an effective diagnostic method through the new X-Ray machine, offering better care to the population and thereby achieving better medical treatment in a more timely manner.
-Savings of time and money for patients who are generally low income, avoiding the need for them to travel long distances due to the lack of an adequate X-ray machine. The trip to Santa Cruz is two hours from Cabezas, longer from the other communities and patients very often do not have their own transportation.
