Project Description Region: Africa Country: Nigeria Location: Port Harcourt Total Budget: $39,940 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt, District 9141, conducted a needs assessment on between September and October 2024 in 3 identified Schools in Obio/akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria. The schools, has student/pupils population of over 2,400. Over 600 students/pupils' sit on the floor or stand to learn due to lack of enough school desk. Random interview conducted with the students and teachers confirms that most of the students do not have basic text books and writing materials. The school in number 3 above in particular lack basic sanitation and toilet facilities as the existing facility is in bad shape. Aligned with Rotary's mission, we aim to rehabilitate the school to create a standard learning institution. The proposed intervention includes: 1. Provision of 3 in 1 School Desk, Teachers Tables and Chairs. 2. Provision of Magnetic Board and Accessories. 3. Provision of Back to school materials, Text books, exercise books and writing materials to the students/pupils. 4. Renovation of existing toilets and connection of water supply at COMMUNITY PRIMARY SCHOOL, RUMUNDURU, ORIGWE. Project timeline: 60 days. Members of the club will be responsible for the design and supervision of the entire project to ensure timley completion which meets the approved standard at affordable budget estimates.
