Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Community economic development
There exists a significantly high incidence of pregnancy complications, congenital defects due to poor access to adequate identification of high risk pregancies, antenatal and post-natal medical care and knowledge of easily grown nutritional sources. Pregnant women are dying while attempting to get to higher level physician care or resort to at-home births and herbal birth inductions because they cannot pay for fuel requested for transport. This grant seeks to provide education and training to VHTs (community based volunteers called Village Health Team), upgrading electronic communication devices to transmit diagnostic data to a central location, access to doppler ultrasound equipment to monitor mothers and fetuses for potential risk before the need for care becomes acute or emergent. We will pilot some community-identified economic development projects to improve the ability to increase income and access for these remote marginalized communities. Rotary, Rotaract and partner Lion club members will participate in implementation of economic development projects as well as monitoring and evaluation of all project activities throughout the Global Grant.

Additional Contribution (not matched by The Rotary Foundation)
$10,000
Total
$195,000
Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
