The project âœSanta Marianita Beach: Conservation, Monitoring and Community Management of the Coastal Environmentâ has as its
main purpose to strengthen the protection, conservation and sustainable use of the coastal ecosystem of the community of Santa
Marianita, located in the rural parish of the Manta canton, Manabà province. Through a participatory and inclusive approach, the project seeks to actively engage the community, local authorities, social
organizations, and volunteers, promoting responsible environmental management practices, ecological education, and civic coresponsibility.
The initiative addresses challenges identified in the community assessment, such as inadequate solid waste
management, seasonal tourist pressure, limited environmental education, and the need to preserve the natural resources that form the
economic and cultural foundation of the region.GENERAL OBJECTIVE MAIN
OBJECTIVE To contribute to the
protection, conservation and sustainable management of the coastal environment of Santa Marianita beach, by strengthening the
capacity of the community and local governments to manage and conserve natural resources, as well as the use of environmental
education and social awareness activities to promote behavioral changes in favor of the environment, improving environmental
health, community resilience and the quality of life of the local population, in accordance with the priorities of Rotary's Area of Interest:
Environment Specific Objectives
Strengthening the capacities of the local community â"including neighborhood leaders, volunteers, artisanal fishermen and
tourism stakeholdersâ" for the responsible management, conservation and protection of the coastal ecosystem of Santa Marianita beach.
